Very short pamphlet of anecdotes from nursing.I picked up this book free during an Amazon giveaway. Besides being too long, the title is misleading; these tales aren't what "really" happens to nurses any more than the stretch of the Washington Beltway where you have to move over 6 lanes in about a mile in order to stay on I-95 is what it is "really" like to drive I-95. The anecdotes are probably true, although Maverick (a pen name?) doesn't distinguish between her own memories and those she heard from other nurses. They are simply NOT any kind of representative examples of nursing practice - I've been an RN for 27 years now so I know. Most of them are horror stories. If you like nursing memories, you'll probably enjoy these. Spelling, grammar, and Kindle formatting were fine.

This sounds like an interesting book, but the description says that the price is $9.99 for a 45-page book! This price is about 10 times what it should be.
There were some interesting stories but a little more background information or an introduction would have helped.. not sure if all these experiences happened to one nurse or this was a collection of stories from a number of nurses.
The author wants to protect the identities of her patients, which is a kind thing to do, but in doing so she's rendered the stories unrelatable. I would be interested to hear what it's really like to be a nurse -- the decisions you have to make, the difficult patients, the crazy doctors, the annoying insurance forms, etc. Instead this is a watered down story about a home care nurse who often doesn't see the same patients more than a few times and without any details to make you care about those patients, it's pretty dull to read.
I wish we knew a little more about where and when the stories took place, otherwise a nice, quick read.
Simple book with records of actual nursing experiences that occur on a daily basis. Just A read with brief accounts of true life experiences. Might be a good book for nursing students or anyone contemplating becoming a nurse.
After working in nursing for 16 years, I must say, this book is the first I have found that even comes close to being an accurate, detailed description of the many different people and situations that a nurse encounters on a daily basis. I, like the author, also worked in nursing homes through an agency, and was almost always given the "worst" patients or assignment. I went about my day much the same as the author, by being kind and treating the patients with dignity and respect, eventually becoming a favorite of the both the patients and the staff. Nursing can be a very rewarding profession, if you are the right person for this type of work. It takes a lot of patience and you have to really want to make a difference for the people you are caring for. I am sure from her descriptions, this author was an excellent nurse.
I worked with a number of nurses during my career in blood banking so the experiences related in this book was from an RN who had to deal with the extra-ordinary moments of caring for the sick and injured, and their family members. I feel for nurses for what they have to put up with...I had wanted it to be longer for what I paid for but it does tell you how many pages are in the digital book and I missed that part. Live and learn. Still enjoyed the book, she's a good writer.
